About BB/BSCV Big Brothers / Big Sisters is one of the most well recognized service agencies in the world. The Lynchburg Chapter of BB/BS was established in 1977 and serves more than 600 children in Amherst, Lynchburg, and Nelson County. Recognizing the changing nature of families and economic realities, BB/BS is there to support families provide effective role models, mentors, and influences in a child's life. National and state statistics show
that children who are mentored are more likely to improve in school and
in their relationships with family and peers, and less likely to skip
school or use illegal drugs or alcohol. Students who are successful in
school are less likely to drop out, become pregnant, abuse drugs or become

PACE Class: SBC contact: Tim Loboschefski Site Based Program: Working with Amherst Elementary schools, students will spend 1 hour/week meeting with their Little. Assisting with homework, having fun, serving as a role model, offering encouragement, talking and playing, talking and listening, and most importantly - being there in the child's life. Community Experience: This is what is more commonly thought of when you think of a "Big Sister Experience." You will be matched with a child (between ages of 6 - 14) and spend a few hours a week with your "Little." Going to the library, watching movies, working on a school project, going to a sporting event, exploring nature or spending time enjoying a shared interest or trying something new together. |
