Wintergreen Nature Foundation

PACE homepage

Taking advantage of Virginia's beautiful landscape and natural resources, the Wintergreen Nature Foundation exists to encourage the understanding, appreciation, and conservation of the natural and cultural resources of the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia. The Foundation functions as a research and education facility for its members and visitors, and serves as a host site for regional and national conservation efforts.

As one component of its educational mission, Pam Gallery began the Native Plant Propagation Program under the auspices of The Wintergreen Nature Foundation. The purpose of this program is to study and document the propagation requirements of wildflowers in the central Blue Ridge. Volunteers continue to collect and germinate seeds, research books, and study the many varieties of wildflowers found throughout the mountains and valleys of the central Blue Ridge.

Students in this class will conduct research (using our growth chambers, Greenhouse, and other Botany resources in the Biology department) for the native Plant Propogation Program. They will research the optimal growing conditions and requirements for the various native plant species found in our natural surround and present reports and findings to the Wintergreen Nature Foundation. This work is critical to discovering how best to handle the changing climate conditions and to help enable our unique flora to continue serving as a valued resource to our regional community.
